How to measure your closets before choosing organizers

Measure the inside of the cabinet before choosing an organizer. Hinges, pipes, and doors can reduce the usable space, even if the cabinet looks spacious on the outside.

Your quick reference guide
Minimum interior width _____ cm
Clear depth _____ cm
Usable height _____ cm
Obstacles and opening ____________

1. Measure the interior space at several points

Use a tape measure to measure the width, depth, and height in more than one place. Note the smallest usable measurement and consider any protrusions.

2. Check doors, hinges, and drawers

Open and close the cabinet. Check that the accessory can fit in, open, and be removed without rubbing against doors, handles, or shelves.

3. Check pipes and other obstacles

In under-sink cabinets, note the position of the trap, connections, and pipes. Leave the plumbing accessible and avoid blocking ventilation or areas you need to inspect.

4. Think about what you will store

Choose the organizer based on the objects and their weight. Check the maximum load, materials, and assembly instructions provided by the manufacturer.

Checklist

  • Have I measured the interior width, depth, and height?
  • Have I taken hinges, pipes, and handles into account?
  • Is there enough space to open or remove the organizer?
  • Do I know the material, assembly requirements, and weight limit?
Tip: compare these measurements with the dimensions of the exact variant, not just the product's exterior size.
